Nixon Home

This 2012 passive solar home takes advantage of a variety of natural features. The north uphill side and east and west walls are partially earth-bermed with insulation on the exterior of the foundation walls. Unobstructed southern window s provide full solar heat gain in the winter while exterior overhangs provide shade to keep the home cooler in the summer. The south roof is optimized for solar electric panels and the north roof allows the clerestory windows to cast the sun’s winter heat deep into the rooms. A variety of other efficiency measures, both inside and outside, help minimize energy and water requirements.
