A budding community in Arvada is proving that new homes can be comfortable while emitting no greenhouse gases. All of the three types of homes are built with optimal solar orientation to harvest winter sun for passive heat and to shade homes in the summer. The PV solar arrays generate all the energy needed for the 100% electric homes. Inside, the homes have many high-efficiency features. Outside, the neighborhood includes edible landscapes, community gardens, bike and pedestrian paths and even goats providing landscaping services. Shared electric vehicles will be charged under a parking structure covered with solar panels.
